Meet The Team

Dr. Allison Clare was born and raised in Calgary, AB. She moved to Edmonton to attend undergrad and medical school and then onto Red Deer to complete her rural family medicine residency. She has been practicing rural family medicine since she graduated in 2013 initially in Alberta but then started out as a locum in Golden until she got a permanent position in 2017.  Dr. Clare has a full scope family practice that includes clinic, emergency, obstetrics, inpatient care and long term care. She is interested in all aspects of rural family medicine and really enjoys the variety of practice. She is a physician representative for Golden on the Division of Family Practice’s Regional Physician Representative Committee. Dr. Clare and her husband Will have called Golden home for 9 years. They always wanted to live in a small mountain town and Golden has been a great place to live, recreate and raise their family! Will is a ski and hiking guide, they have 2 young sons. Their boys keep them busy with skiing, biking, hiking, camping and general adventuring.

Dr. Jill Cunes grew up in Calgary, attended medical school at McGill University and family medicine residency at St Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. She first came to Golden as a family medicine trainee and the experience changed her career plans. After completing her training and working at various rural sites in BC and Alberta, she moved to Golden full time to pursue full service family practice in 2013. 

When Dr. Cunes isn't in the clinic, hospital or long term care facility, you can find her outdoors getting heckled by her three children for being a disappointment on her bike or skis.  

I was born and raised in Calgary. I completed a BSc at Queens University (2012) and my MD at the University of Alberta (2016). I then went on to do residencies in family medicine (2018) and FP-Anesthesia (2023).  I have called Golden home since 2020 and I practice full service family medicine, emergency medicine, and anesthesia here. I strive to provide patient-centered care and hope to work with you to meet your unique healthcare goals.  In my spare time I enjoy biking and skiing in our spectacular local mountains. 

Dr. Christy Trafananko - "Dr T"  was born and raised in a small town in Saskatchewan. She always felt called to “mountain living”.  She completed medical school at the University of Saskatchewan, and then entered a rural family medicine residency in southern Manitoba. She developed a love and passion for women’s health and obstetrics which prompted her to complete extra training in Winnipeg to broaden her skills in obstetrics and perform caesarean sections. She began her medical practice near her hometown, but the call to mountains was strong. She then started working in Golden in November of 2020 as a locum – and absolutely fell in love with this community and she is now happy to call Golden her home. In her free time she can be found outside, biking or hiking with friends, snowboarding in the winter, or in the gym. She loves to travel the world and connect with family and friends over a fancy dinner and glass of wine.

Dr. Doug Page was born in the East Kootenays and feels lucky to be living and working in Golden, BC, surrounded by his energetic family, an amazing community, and the great outdoors.

Doug studied Biology at the University of Victoria, where he graduated in 2006.  He graduated medicine at Queen's University in 2010, and completed his Family Medicine Residency Training through UBC in 2012.  He has worked as a full service family physician since in places like Lake Louise, across rural BC, and in New Zealand until returning to Vancouver for  additional training in Anesthesiology in 2018.   He has clinical faculty teaching appointments at UBC as well as the University of Calgary and enjoys teaching medical students and residents.  As a member of the Golden Medical Clinic, Dr. Page provides primary care at the clinic for all ages and backgrounds, as well as providing hospital Anesthesia, Emergency Medicine, Inpatient care, and Interventional pain services.

Dr. Meghan Guy grew up in Calgary and attended medical school at the University of Calgary, graduating 2009. She completed her family medicine residency in Kelowna. She practiced rural family medicine as a locum in several communities in British Columbia and Northern Canada before joining the practice at the Golden Medical Clinic as a permanent physician in 2016. Dr. Guy has a family practice and is also a member of Golden Maternity team, providing prenatal, labor and delivery, and postpartum care. She has a special interest in woman's health and family planning and has done extra training in this area in Calgary and Vancouver. Dr. Guy has a wonderful little boy and enjoys spending time with her family in our beautiful surrounding mountains and lakes in her spare time.

Dr. Jessica Chiles grew up in Prince George and attended university and medical school at UBC. She completed
residency in the Rural Family Practice program which sent her to various locations around the province
before making Golden her home in 2012. She has enjoyed raising her two daughters with her husband Dr. Adam Watchorn in such a supportive community.

Dr. Chiles provides emergency, maternity, palliative and inpatient care. She also has a special interest in
gender affirming care and medical education. Her focus has always been on full service family practice
with the goal of providing excellent care to people in rural areas.  She has been involved with various
projects and committees with the Divisions of Family Practice, Doctors of BC, Shared Care Committee,
and Primary Care Network with the goal of improving rural healthcare.
She enjoys spending as much of her spare time as possible with her children. When they aren't interested in playing with her, she enjoys running, skiing, reading and attempting to garden and raise chickens

Born and raised in the Ottawa/Gatineau region, Dr. DesCôteaux obtained an MD degree from University of Ottawa in 1985. Following surgical specialty training he obtained a master's degree in medical education and completed a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery. He then established an academic career at the University of Calgary where he stayed until 2009. Seeking a change of pace and an expansion of his skills he moved to Golden in the same year. He has since provided a broad range of surgical services in an attempt to improve access for the local community. His experiences in both rural and urban medical care have brought valuable insights in and appreciation for the needs of our residents.   

Dr. Joyce Totton was born in the Maritimes in New Brunswick and attended pharmacy school at Dalhousie University. She moved to Toronto to complete her General Pediatrics residency, and then went on to complete her PharmD with the University of Colorado, completing rotations in Mental Health and Primary Care.  After finishing in 2011, she went on to complete her midwifery school at Laurentian University and her new registration year in the Niagara region of Ontario.  She has practiced both pharmacy and midwifery in urban and rural locations across Canada, including Thunder Bay, Chatham, Prince George, Golden, and Halifax.  

Joyce shares maternity care as a midwife on a collaborative team with six family physicians, sharing on call and clinic time to provide prenatal, intrapartum, and postpartum care to pregnant persons in a variety of settings.  She also holds a Certificate in Traditional Environmental Knowledge from the University of Northern British Columbia and in Project Management from the University of British Columbia. She enjoys participating in maternity care projects locally and provincially, as a leader and a member.

Joyce has a daughter and in spare time, they enjoy running, camping, paddle boarding, biking, skiing and being generally active in and around Golden.
